How to Access WebMail in Internet Explorer (mail.ucp.edu.pk)

1. Open Internet Explorer Browser.
2. In the address field type "http://mail.ucp.edu.pk" (without quotes) and Press Enter.
3. You will see a Welcome page for logging in to the mail server. Type your full email address in the Email Address Field.
4. Type your email password (Note: This is different from your Internet dialup password).
5. Click Login.

How to Setup Email in Microsoft Outlook (mx1.ucp.edu.pk)

1. Start Microsoft Outlook (from your Desktop or Startmenu).
2. Select "Email-Accounts" from the Tools menu.
3. From the popup form select "Add a new Email Account" option.
4. Click Next.
5. From Server Type Selection form select "POP3" and click Next.
6. Type your Full Name in "Your Name" field.
7. Type your email address (it will be registrationid@ucp.edu.pk).
8. For "Server Information" section type "mx1.ucp.edu.pk" (without quotes) in Incoming and Outgoing Server text boxes.
9. Type your email address again in the "Username" filed as in step 7.
10. Leave the Password field blank and uncheck the "Save Password" check box for increased security (you can save it if you like to).
11. Do NOT select the "Logon using Secure Password Authentication SPA" check box. (If already enabled, disable it).
12. Click Next, Click Finish.

Your email account at UCP is now setup to use.

How to Setup Email in Outlook Express (mx1.ucp.edu.pk)

1. Open the Outlook Express (from your Desktop or Startmenu).
2. Select Accounts from the Tools Menu.
3. Click on Add -> Mail (A new window will popup asking Display Name).
4. Type your Full Name (This will appear on every email you send).
5. Click Next.
6. Type your Full Email Address (i.e. registrationid@ucp.edu.pk).
7. Click Next.
8. You will now be presented with another form where you specify your mail server etc. Select POP3 from the Drop Down combo box.
9. For Incoming & Outgoing mail server type "mx1.ucp.edu.pk" (without quotes).
10. Click Next.
11. On the next page type your full email address as you did in step 6.
12. Leave the Password field blank for increased security (you can save it if you like to).
13. Do NOT select the "Logon using Secure Password Authentication SPA" check box. (If already enabled, disable it).
14. Click Next and Click Finish.

Your email account at UCP is now setup to use.

How to change WebMail Password (mail.ucp.edu.pk)

Important: Please note that email password can only be changed when you login to email server using Internet Explorer.

1. Logon to the email server as described in "How to Access WebMail in Internet Explorer" Section".
2. When you are logged in you can see a link named "Options" on the top of the page.
3. Click "Options" link. You will be presented with the Options Page.
4. Click "Change Password" (This will be the last entry in the Options Page).
5. Now you will see a password change form. Type your old password in the "Old Password" text box.
6. Type the desired password twice in the "New password" and "Verify New Password" fileds.
7. Click Submit to make your changes.

Note: Your email password is now changed. Remember changing email password will not effect the Internet dialup password.

How to retrieve password for Student Services (online.ucp.edu.pk)

1. Open Internet Explorer Browser.
2. Type "http://online.ucp.edu.pk" (without quotes) in the Address Bar and Press Enter.
3. Click on "Student Services". You will be redirected to the login page.
4. Type your regestration ID in the "Registration No." field.
5. Now with the password field blank, click on the "Forget Password" button.
6. Your password is emailed to your "UCP Mail" address (i.e. registrationid@ucp.edu.pk).
7. Open your email in either Internet Explorer or any other email client. (If you dont know how to access WebMail, Please read the related section on configuring/accessing email services).
8. When you logon to the mail server goto the Inbox (If not redirected automatically).
9. You will see a new email from "webmaster@ucp.edu.pk" subjected "Your Password retrieved!".
10. Open that email to recieve your password for Student Services.
11. Once you have the password goto Online Services Page (as in step 1 - 4), give your registration ID and password to login to the System.

How to access your Home Directory (fs.ucp.edu.pk)

1. Open Internet Explorer Browser.
2. Type "ftp://fs.ucp.edu.pk" (without quotes) in the Address Bar and press Enter.
3. You will now be prompted with a "Log on As" dialog box (This may take a minute depending on Internet Speed and conditions).
4. Type your registration id with a prefix of "pgc\" (i.e. pgc\registrationid).
5. Type your LAB Password (This password is different from dialup and email passwords) in the password field and press Enter.
6. You should be seeing your home folder now.

Note: For login problems at "FileServer" please contact LAB Staff at 575-5314 ~ 17 (Ext. 113, 145).

Settings for Windows 9x

  1. Step1: Install Dial-Up Networking
  2. 1. If you already have Dial-up Networking installed you can skip to the next step.
    2. Click Start Button.
    3. Click Settings.
    4. Click Control Panel.
    5. Click Add / Remove Program.
    6. Click Windows Setup double click on Communications.
    7. Click on the Dial-up Networking check box.
    8. Click Ok.
    9. Click Apply.
    10. Click Ok.
    11. Note: Window 95/98 CD is required.
    12. Now you may have to restart your computer.

  3. Step 2: Install TCP/IP

    1. If you already have TCP/IP installed, you can skip to the next step.
    2. Click Start.
    3. Click Settings.
    4. Click Control Panel.
    5. Double Click Network Icon.
    6. Click on Add.
    7. Double Click on Protocol.
    8. Under Manufacturers click on Microsoft.
    9. Under Network Protocols, double click on TCP/IP.
    10. Click OK. (Note: Window 95/98 CD is required.)
    11. Now you may have to restart your computer.

  4. Step 3: Make New Connection for Windows 95/98

    1. Double Click on My Computer on your desktop.
    2. Double Click on the Dial-Up Networking folder.
    3. Double click on Make New Connection icon.
    4. For connection Name type in PGCNET.
    5. Make sure your modem is listed in the selected Modem box.
    6. Click Next Under Telephone No type 13101101.
    7. Under Country Code select Pakistan (92).
    8. Click Next.
    9. Click Finish. (You will see a PGCNET icon in your Dial-up Networking folder.)
    10. Click on the PGCNET icon with your right mouse button.
    11. Click on Properties.
    12. Deselect the Country Code and Area Code option.
    13. Click on Configure button.
    14. Under Call Preferences. Deselect Cancel the call if not connected within 60 secs.
    15. Click on OK button.
    16. Click on Server Types.
    17. Under Type of Dial-up Server, select PPP: Windows 95-98,Windows NT 3.5 Internet.
    18. Deselect all protocols/services except TCP/IP. Only TCP/IP should be selected.
    19. Click OK.

    PGCNET connection is now setup to use Internet.

Settings for Windows Me

  1. Step 1 (How to install TCP/IP)
  2. 1. If you already have TCP/IP installed, you can skip to the next step.
    2. Double-click the My Computer icon.
    3. Double-click the Control Panel icon.
    4. Double-click the Network icon.
    5. Click the Add button.
    6. Select Protocol in the list.
    7. Click the Add button.
    8. Select Microsoft in the Manufacturers list.
    9. Select TCP/IP in the Network Protocols list.
    10. Click the OK button.
    11. Click the OK button.
    12. Click the OK button. (Note: If prompted, insert the Windows Me CD)
    13. Click the Yes button to restart your computer.
    Note: TCP/IP is now installed on your computer.

  3. Step 2 (How to configure Dial-Up Networking to connect to PGCNET)

    1. From the Start menu, click Settings, and choose Dial-Up Networking.
    2. Double-click the Make New Connection icon.
    3. In the Type a name for the computer you are dialing field, type PGCNET.
    4. Click the down arrow on the Select a device drop-down list and choose your default modem. Now Click the Next button.
    5. In the Area code field, type in your local area code.
    6. In the Telephone number field, type your PGCNET access number (13101101)
    7. Click the Next button. And Click the Finish button.
    8. Click the PGCNET icon with your right mouse button, and then choose Properties.
    9. In General deselect use area code and Dialing properties
    10. Click on the Networking tab.
    11. Click the down arrow on the Type of Dial-Up Server: drop-down list and choose PPP: Internet, Windows 2000/NT, Windows Me.
    12. Uncheck all the boxes except TCP/IP.
    13. Click the TCP/IP Settings Button.
    14. Select server assigned IP address.
    15. Select server assigned name server addresses.
    16. Click last two options.
    17. Click the OK button.
    18. Click on the Security tab.
    19. In the User name: field, type in your username.
    20. In the Password: field, type in your password.
    21. Click the OK button.
    22. Click the PGCNET icon with your right mouse button, and then choose Create Shortcut. Click the Yes button.
    Note: The dial up connection to PGCNET is ready to connect.

Settings for Windows NT Workstation/Server

  1. Step 1 (Configuring the dialup connection to PGCNET)

    1. Note: RAS and Dial-Up Networking should be installed.
    2. Double click My Computer: 
    3. Double Click On Dial-Up Networking, A window will pop up.
    4. Click On New at the top.
    5. A new window will pop up with following tabs,
    6. BASIC - SERVER - SECURITY - X.25 etc.
    7. In Basic give connection name PGCNET.
    8. Click on Sever.
    9. Deselect all the options leave TCP/IP.
    10. Click on Security and click on first option having text Accept any authentication including Clear text.

  1. Step 2 (Verify your settings)

    If you want to view your settings.
    1. Double click on My Computer.
    2. Then Dial-Up Networking.
    3. There you will click on "More" button and a menu will open.
    4. Select edit entry for dialing properties and you again have these tabs (Basic - Sever - Security - etc.).

Settings for Windows 2000 Professional/Server

  1. Step 1 (Configuring the Dialup Connection)

    1. Click on Start.
    2. Click on Settings.
    3. Click on Network and Dial-up Connections.
    4. Click on Make New Connection.
    5. Click on Next.
    6. Click on Dial-up to the Internet.
    7. Press Next.
    8. Select the "I want to setup my connection manually" (Last Option).
    9. Click On Next.
    10. Select the "I connect through a phone line and a modem" option.
    11. Click on Next.
    12. Give 13101101 under Telephone number.
    13. Deselect Use area code and dialing rules.
    14. Click Advanced.
    15. Select the PPP option.
    16. Select the check box "Disable LCP extensions"
    17. Click on Addresses.
    18. Select Obtain an IP address automatically
    19. Click OK
    20. Click Next 
    21. Give in the User Name
    22. Give in the Connection Name PGCNET
    23. Click Next
    24. Click Yes if you want to configure mail account
    25. Click on Next
    26. Click on Finish
    27. The PGCNET connection is configured
    28. Double click on the PGCNET connection 
    29. Give your User Name and Password
    30. Click on Connect

Setting for Windows XP

  1. Step 1 (Configuring a Dialup connection for PGCNET)

    Note: Before setting up your connection to PGCNET, you should make sure that a modem is installed.  Click on Start menu.

    1. Click Control Panel.
    2. Double-click on the Network Connections icon.
    3. Under the "Network Tasks" panel, select Create a new connection to start the "New Connection Wizard".
    4. Click Next to advance to the "Network Connection Type" window. 
    5. Choose Connect to the Internet and click Next.
    6. In the "Getting Ready" window, choose Set up my connection manually
    7. Click Next.
    8. In the "Internet Connection" window, choose Connect using a dial-up modem.
    9. Click Next. 
    10. In the "Connection Name" window, type “PGCNET” in the ISP Name field.
    11. Click Next. 
    12. In the "Phone Number to Dial" window, type 13101101 in the Phone Number field and click Next.
    13. In the "Internet Account Information" window, type in your PGCNET username in the User name field. 
    14. Type in your PGCNET password in both the Password and Confirm password fields and click Next. 
    15. After finishing the "New Connection Wizard", check the Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop checkbox for easy access to the PGCNET connection icon from the desktop.
    16. Click Finish. 

  2. Step 2 (Optimizing the connection settings for PGCNET)

1. Select the newly created PGCNET connection icon in the Network Connections Window.
2. Right click and select properties.
3. Goto the Networking tab and click "Settings" button.
4. Uncheck the "Enable LCP Extensions" and the "Negotiate multi-link for single link connections".
5. Click OK.
6. Below the settings button you will see the listed protocols and services installed for PGCNET icon. Deselect all of them except TCP/IP.
7. Click OK.

Note: Your connection is now ready to use with PGCNET.

Establish a connection to the Internet using PGCNET

*. After configuring the PGCNET connection, you are ready to dial up.
*. Double-click on the PGCNET icon from your desktop.

NOTE: If a desktop icon was not created during the "New Connection Wizard", you can also access the PGCNET icon from Network Connections in Control Panel. 

*. In the "Connect PGCNET" window, enter a valid PGCNET username and password in the proper fields and click Dial to connect.

*. To disconnect from the PGCNET,  double-click on the PGCNET icon on the desktop after a connection has been established, and click Disconnect.
