Website Hosting
• PGCNET also has Web servers
configured to support all .ASP and .JSP enabled websites.
• Separate servers are working to support .ASP and .JSP
websites.
• Student’s final projects are also hosted on
these web servers so that they can show them to their employers
to get good jobs.
• The web interface of student registration system or
PICSSOFT is also hosted on these web servers.
• On these websites students can check their grades,
leave status, transcript, timetable, quizzes, assignments,
lectures and any other information they require.
• Websites of the societies working in UCP PCBA/PICS
are also hosted on local web servers of PGCNET
• Websites of other UCP institutions are locally hosted
by PGCNET.
• Resources for students in form on ebooks are also
hosted by PGCNET
• Space to host web pages is also offered to PCBA/PICS
faculty.
• Students can request for space to host web pages and
information web sites.
• Currently web servers at PGCNET are hosting 22 websites.
• Websites of 80 faculty members.
• Websites of 185 courses and sections
Bandwidth Management
PGCNET provides bandwidth services
to Punjab Group of Colleges. Currently we have around 3 MB
bandwidth, out of which 1 MB is full duplex and 2 MB is downlink.
This bandwidth is shared among different campuses of PGC like
MAJU Karachi, Islamabad Campus, PCBA/PICS Lahore and PCIT
Lahore Campus.
Dialup Networking
PGCNET is providing Dialup facility
to PCBA/PICS students and faculty. Though dedicated PRI’s
PGCNET users are allowed to access UCP Internet and Intranet
facilities, custom made billing software and state of the
art hardware allows PGCNET user to these facilities in controlled
and disciplined manner.This service is designed to provide
Internet Access, including access to the World Wide Web and
email while sitting at home.
All you need is a computer, a modem, and a phone line to get
connected to the Internet. We support 56K modem technology.
Enable your user from ISP wing of Computing and Communication
Department of UCP. The User name for the dial up account is
same as the registration id. Dial up number is 13101101.

After signing up, your dial up home page will be user.pgcnet.com
Remember, limited hours are offered initially under the defined
policy, you can view the dial up internet policies under the
heading POLICIES/GUIDELINES.
VPN ACCESS
PGCNET ISP is providing vpn access
from labs to access the internet. The purpose of the vpn access
is to implement the internet policies not only from home through
dialup, but also from labs.
Email Services
PGCNET ISP has a very efficient and
robust mail server on reliable and performance wise good operating
system which provides mail services to all of the UCP Management,
Staff, students, and other subsidiaries of the UCP. We are
providing mail services such as
1. Web Mail ACCESS
PGCNET ISP provides mail access from everywhere on the internet
using web mail link (http://mail.ucp.edu.pk).
2. IMAP & POP ACCESS
PGCNET ISP provides IMAP and POP access to all of its users
to give them another option to configure any mail client
to access their mailboxes.
Content Filtering
PGCNET ISP is providing Content Filtering.
Content Filtering is the process of restricting users from
accessing inappropriate Internet sites while allowing access
to desired sites.
Here the purpose of the content filtering is not to restrict
the informative sites but to sites which can be ethically
bad.
Wireless Services
PGCNET ISP is providing internet services
to some remote points through wireless Canopy technology with
towers and wireless antennas on both ends. |
